Raising Funds For a Community Defibrillator
Earlier this year, Fleming Homes earmarked £1000 to donate to a charity of our teams’ choice. Conscious that cardiac arrests can happen to anyone but that early CPR and defibrillation may double the chance of survival, the team decided to install a defibrillator at our premises in Duns for the benefit of the whole community. However, the cost of purchasing and installing a defibrillator is roughly double that amount.
Undeterred, the team decided to fundraise to make up the difference. Firstly, we hosted a coffee morning and raffle at our premises in Duns on Friday, 9th August. This received fantastic support from the local community. We are extremely grateful to everyone who contributed home baking or raffle prizes, as well as to everyone who came along. Special thanks to our friends at Windshiel Farm for their generous donation of organic bacon and sausages.
The following day, some of our team members, along with game family and friends, walked a half marathon along the beautiful Northumberland coast from Berwick-upon-Tweed to The Barn at Beal.
We are thrilled to announce that, thanks to the amazing support from our trusted suppliers, customers, local businesses, friends, colleagues and the local community, we raised significantly more than our target.
This means that as well as ordering a defibrillator, we were able to donate £858 each to two local charities:
1. Harris Trust. Set up in memory of a young man, Harris Macdonell, the charity aims to raise awareness and provide training around mental health and neurodiversity and to support the development of mentoring and peer support programmes for young people. Additionally, it supports the provision of music and sporting activities for young people with mental health and/or neurodiverse issues.
2. Duns Foodbank. As we approach autumn, the Foodbank like many other similar organisations, is starting to experience an increase in demand and anticipates that this will be a very challenging winter. The donation will help them to continue to support local families in need.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped us raise funds for these three worthy causes, including NSBRC, Redpath Tyres, H&S Joinery, Pearsons, Keillor Build, MGM Timber, Energytest Ltd, PivotLab, ADW, Homebuilding & Renovating Shows, James Hallam Ltd and BuildIt. Your generosity will make a lasting impact on our local community.
